A Self-Care Assessment to Give You the Change you are Seeking - Happy New Year!
If you are interested in a thorough Self-Care Assessment to help you start the new year on track with your well-being, I may have the perfect option awaiting your attention. This Self-Care Assessment is always available on my website. The areas of assessment are Physical, Psychological, Emotional, Spiritual, Workplace, and Balance. It identifies areas in terms of frequency and is rated as such: (5) frequently, (4) occasionally, (3) rarely, (2) never, or (1) it never occurred to me.
I use this Assessment with my clients as a discussion piece. Surprisingly, the client will often find that an area, for example, Balance, relates to the issue that brought them to me. Under Balance lists ideas that may be beneficial. Moreover, the Assessment may lead the client to consider other ideas to achieve a better balance.
I am a believer in the connection between self-care and self-love. Once we feel the desire to take better care of ourselves, we can then begin to feel more connected to loving ourselves. Ultimately, self-care and self-love are the foundation for a healthy mind, body, and spirit.
A Cycle of Care
Self-care fuels self-love: Consistent, healthy self-care builds self-trust and shows that your needs matter, creating the foundation for self-love.
Self-love guides self-care: Self-love gives you the “why” behind your actions. It’s the inner voice saying, “I deserve to feel good,”prompting you to choose activities that genuinely nourish, not just distract. It also helps set up better boundaries.
Self-care without self-love: Can feel empty or like a chore if you’re still self-critical during the activity (working out while thinking you are imperfect).
Self-love without self-care: Can lead to burnout or superficial fixes (like a massage followed by stress), as underlying issues remain unaddressed.
In the end, self-care and self-love are essential together because they:
Boosts our mental health by reducing stress and anxiety
Increases resilience by helping manage challenges better
Improves relationships by bringing a healthier version of yourself to the relationship
Fosters authenticity by allowing you to live more genuinely rather than just pleasing others.
